The second Learner Connect session, held on January 14, was a great success. Learners from across the country joined the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) leadership and a Postgraduate Associate Dean for an open conversation on how to best prepare for match interviews. Participants had the chance to ask questions, gain practical advice, and explore strategies to help them shine during interview season. AFMC thanks all learners who attended for their thoughtful engagement.

Here are some of the helpful tips and key takeaways shared during the session:

  • Know the programs. Explore CANPREPP to learn about program structures, unique features, and what makes each one a good fit for you. The more informed you are, the better you can tailor your answers.
  • Practice interviews. Respond authentically—many questions don’t have a definitive right or wrong answer. Prepare by practicing with peers, ensuring your attire is professional, and checking your technical setup, including internet connection and background.
  • Showcase your strengths. Be ready to discuss your achievements with confidence and enthusiasm. Highlight what sets you apart and how your experiences have prepared you for residency.

For additional insights and guidance, watch the full recorded session and hear directly from our leaders on how best to prepare.

AFMC wishes all learners the very best in their upcoming interviews. We also welcome your ideas for future Learner Connect sessions through this link.
